The Start Of A New Senedd Term

James Evans MS

Today we mark the first day back of this new Senedd term and I'm pleased to be here representing my home constituency of Brecon & Radnorshire. It is during this term I will be hammering home my three commitments. Health, Education and Housing. In addition to these, I will also be building on my work to champion our future generations and how we as politicians can better reflect their values here in Wales.

It is a matter of fact that Welsh Labour are not building enough homes for young families. It is a matter of fact they are failing to train and retain younger generations who are otherwise looking for opportunities in other major cities such as London. With an ageing population, current government policy risks putting Wales into a ditch it will never climb out of. To crack this, we must look to our young people and ask them "what can we do for you?".

As elected officials, we are entering one of the most important periods in Welsh politics. This is where we begin to move beyond the midterm period and build on our vision for a new Welsh government under a Welsh Conservative Administration in 2026.

It is because of this, I will be focusing on the bread and butter issues, rather than Welsh Labour's program of maintaining the Universal Basic income pilot, the implementation of the default 20mph rule and the inclusion of 36 more politicians in Cardiff Bay. Being matter of fact is what will ensure that we continue to hold the government to account and demand better.

Over the summer, I spoke to thousands of people who want the First Minister to fix our crippling health care system and deliver on front line services. However, as we continuously witness, the First Minister and his front bench no longer command the confidence of the electorate. Their policies continue to be rejected and hold an all-time low in approval ratings.

As we move through the next term, I continue to pledge to my voters that this Welsh government will be held to account and that Brecon & Radnorshire will not be overlooked or overshadowed by Welsh Labour's.
