James Evans MS has expressed serious concerns regarding the decision to invite the group Kneecap to perform at this year’s Green Man Festival on Glanusk Estate, following reports of troubling behaviour and rhetoric associated with the group.
The group kneecap has been linked to alleged statements advocating violence against Members of Parliament and apparent displays of support for proscribed terrorist organisations. Reports from a 2023 performance allege that a band member stated, “The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP,” while a 2024 video purportedly shows a member displaying a Hezbollah flag and voicing support for extremist groups.
James Evans MS, Senedd Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said:
“The decision to book controversial rap group Kneecap for this year’s Green Man Festival is deeply troubling. The group has faced widespread criticism for promoting messages that many believe glorify violence and cause division.
“In light of the tragic murders of Jo Cox MP and Sir David Amess MP, public events must be more mindful about who they give a platform to. This isn’t about censorship, it’s about responsibility.
“Promoting acts such as these risks damaging the festival’s reputation and sending the wrong message about what we tolerate in Wales. Organisers should seriously consider the wider impact of this decision.”
