James Evans MS is extremely concerned about reports which have highlighted a toxic bullying culture within Hybu Cig Cymru.

Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC – Meat Promotion Wales) is the organisation responsible for the development, promotion and marketing of Welsh meat In Wales.  Recent issues at the company have seen the CEO stand down, senior executives leaving their positions and board members on the verge of resigning – with no annual report on their website since 2021, and no board minutes published since 2022.

James has asked the Rural Affairs Secretary Huw Irranca-Davies MS on what steps he’s taking to address the concerns raised by the recent report around the culture within HCC as the Welsh Government is the sole member and ultimate controlling party of the company.

Speaking in the Senedd, James Evans MS, Shadow Rural Affairs Minister, said:

“I am extremely concerned about the findings that have recently highlighted a toxic culture within the HCC. This is a very worrying position for a body that underpins an industry that has been valued at over £1bn to Wales to find itself in. The levy payers must have confidence in HCC and currently this is being undermined by recent revelations from the organisation.

“It’s about time the Welsh Labour gave this body back to the industry – and create a fully independent meat marketing board for Wales, run by our farmers and processors who are elected to serve on the board by the industry themselves.”
