With this week marking the 17th annual National Apprenticeship week, James Evans MS has reiterated his support for apprenticeship schemes and the value they bring to both learners and employers across Wales.

Since 2019, more than 26,000 people have started an apprenticeship in health and social care – a key sector of the Welsh economy. This represents more than a quarter of all apprenticeship starts in Wales.

With many school leavers choosing to stay in Brecon and Radnorshire, apprenticeship routes are vitally important to access different routes into a variety of industries.

Many businesses across my constituency offer placements for apprentices and this route into a career has benefited many youngsters over the years.

James Evans MS said:

“We all know that going to university isn’t for everybody. I’ve visited many schools in my constituency, talking to pupils about the importance of apprenticeships as an alternative option for them.

“It is equally important that businesses recognise the value of apprenticeships. In times of staff shortages, apprenticeships are more important now than ever.”
