James Evans MS has asked the Welsh Government if there any plans for Transport for Wales to start operating on the route between Trecastle and Llandovery in West Wales.

In an exchange with the Cabinet Secretary for Transport Ken Skates MS, James highlighted that there is currently no service operating on the main road between Trecastle and Llandovery in West Wales, and that a bus operating along this route would encourage more people to use public transport instead of reverting to using their cars.

James also highlighted the lack of investment in the public transport network across Mid-Wales, and how his constituents feel left out when they see the amount of investment that is going into the South Wales Metro.

Ken Skates responded by saying although TFW are under intense financial pressure, he will invite TFW officials to assess the route and will provide an update when received.

James Evans, MS for Brecon and Radnorshire said:

“It’s no wonder that many people across my constituency feel short-changed when they see the huge amount of money that’s been pumped into the South Wales Metro, but they have to, Instead, endure cuts to the already small services that we have in Mid-Wales.

“It’s shocking that a major tourist link, such as the one between Trecastle and Llandovery in West Wales, does not have any form of public transport service that operates on it. If the Welsh Government is serious about getting people out of cars and onto public transport, this is the first area they should be looking at.

“I am encouraged by the Cabinet Secretary’s response that TFW will assess the route, but I will not believe it until action is taken. I will continue to call for improvements to the public transport network across Mid-Wales.”
