James Evans MS has repeated calls for the Welsh Air Ambulance to remain at its current base in Welshpool as the consultation enters its final phase.

The Emergency Ambulances Services Committee are proposing to shut the Air Ambulance base in Welshpool and relocate it to North Wales.

Evans has consistently argued for the Welshpool base to remain open due to the rural nature of the Brecon and Radnorshire constituency.

James Evans MS said:

“I am hearing horror stories from constituents of ambulance waiting times of up to 24 hours. I’m also hearing of ambulances stuck outside A&E departments, in one case for over 25 hours.

“It is imperative that we keep as many of our emergency response services as possible. I do not want to see patients in Mid Wales put at a disadvantage, and I am strongly opposing the plans to close the Welshpool Air Ambulance base.

“I have heard of many examples where the Air Ambulance has been called out in agricultural accidents. In rural areas where our road network is poor, the Air Ambulance is the difference between life and death.

“The final phase of the consultation is open until the 29th February. The community forced these proposals to be halted before, and we need to do this once more.”
