James Evans MS for Brecon and Radnorshire has paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, past and present, as everyone across Wales marks Armistice Day.

James, who also serves as the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for the Armed Forces, attended remembrance services in Hay-on-Wye and Brecon on Remembrance Sunday, where he joined local veterans, serving personnel, and residents to honour those who gave their lives in service to the country. He said the remembrance period is a time to reflect, but also to renew the nation’s commitment to supporting veterans year-round.

In the Senedd this week, the Welsh Conservatives will bring a package of measures to support Wales’ Armed Forces community, as part of their positive and credible plan to fix Wales. This includes ending veteran homelessness by making veterans a top priority when allocating housing, increasing funding for Veterans NHS Wales, and promoting engagement in the armed forces friendly schools programme to support service children.

James Evans MS, Member of the Senedd for Brecon & Radnorshire, said:

“Every year, we come together to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought to protect our freedoms. It’s always deeply moving to see communities right across Brecon and Radnorshire turn out in such strong numbers to pay their respects.

“Remembrance is not just about looking back, it’s also about looking after those who have served. Too many veterans still face challenges when it comes to housing, healthcare, and mental health support. We have a duty to ensure that no one who has worn our country’s uniform is ever left behind. It cannot be right that veterans across Wales, who have given so much, find themselves homeless on our streets, and not receiving sufficient support. As part of our Welsh Conservative plans to fix Wales, we’ve got bold policies to support our armed forces community, and ensure no veteran is left sleeping on our streets.

“I’m incredibly proud of the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces. On this Armistice Day, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we renew our commitment to those who continue to serve today.”
